Several details on the documents sent for my review were incorrect and some remained even after I asked for correction. I was told they couldn't be changed. I haven't applied for a mortgage for almost 30 years and have never had one in NC. Despite my being out of town during the process and receiving prompt attention to my many questions, I often didn't know enough to know what I needed to ask. It seemed like it was assumed I knew how everything was handled when I did not. Having an excellent credit score, no outstanding debt except student loan, and 20% down payment, the process was more complicated and more costly than I ever expected it to be.

We had heard about New American from our realtor in Georgia but didn’t have a point of contact in North Carolina when we started looking at houses there.
